Kaoru is an artist and also a master of Japanese traditional calligraphy, Kana Shodo. Born in Canada, grew up in the U.S., went to university in Japan and since 2007 in Berlin.
With her globe-trotting background she challenges to revive ancient traditional Kana characters in modern times by merging Kana with modern art.

2008 Master (Shihan) Title and Mukansa Title as Kana Calligrapher
Mukansa: “without judgment”, meaning that her Calligraphy works are automatically authorized and qualified to be displayed at the annual exhibition in the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum without examination of a panel of judges.
